Abstract:

Collection includes copies of the Temple Sinai Bulletin from 1968-2018 (scattered in early years), a 1925 historical summary of Temple Sinai, a tour brochure, program files, mausoleum brochures, a 1970 membership study, other membership materials, sisterhood and brotherhood services materials, a memorial service and biography for Abraham Jonas, a file on Russian Shabbat services, Rabbi Suzanne Singer's prayer book, a historical sketch and program from the Temple's silver jubilee, other silver jubilee materials (1900), a 75th anniversary cookbook, and a Temple Sinai archive catalog prepared by Fred Isaac. Also included are a few photographs, including one of a "Gay 90s" party thrown by the Temple Sinai Sisterhood in 1938.

The First Hebrew Congregation of Oakland, California was incorporated in 1875. At first, it was an orthodox congregation, but then it changed to and adopted the Reform service. Its charter members included businessmen from Hungary; Prussia; Alsace; Russian Poland; and Bavaria. It is commonly known as Temple Sinai.
